Chase HQ – The Amiga Version

Chase HQ is another game that was converted from an Arcade game. The version was released on the Commodore Amiga in 1989.
Chase HQ – The Game
You are an undercover agent of Chase HQ. You and your partner, in your turbo charged Porsche must track down five criminals. All of whom are driving suped-up vehicles of their own.
At the start of each mission you are given a briefing. This briefing gives you all the information on criminal and the car they drive.
After your briefing the chase starts. You must drive while avoiding other vehicles and obstacles, trying to catch up with the suspect. The suspect is pointed out to you on screen with an saying “CRIMINALS HERE!” and your sirens will start to sound.
Once you have caught up with suspect you must to ram into their car. When you have hit it for the first time a damage meter appears. You must keep ramming it until it belongs in the scrap yard, only then will you be able to arrest the suspects and complete the mission.
It’s not as easy as it sounds. You are up against the clock and crashing into cars, buildings, other obstacles and spinning out will cost you valuable seconds. It is quite a difficult game as the time allotted is rather short. You are given extra time once you have caught up to the suspect. And your car is equipped with a “Turbo Boost”, which according the back of the box “will leave your eyes in the back of your head“. In reality though there is only a slight increase and it just makes controlling your car harder.
Is Chase HQ on the Amiga Naff?
The Amiga version of this great arcade classic, Chase H.Q. is not going to blow your mind. If you have played the arcade version this will probably be a disappointment. Its not the best conversion, but its pretty damn good. The graphics aren’t great and the scrolling isn’t very smooth, but you can still just about work out whats going on. The sounds are good and the voice sampling is nice. The controls work ok, they respond as expected and you notice the increase in speed when engaging the turbo. What’s the gameplay like, as that’s what most important. Well… the gameplay is good, it’s fun to play and not far off the arcade version.
